About GCA Consulting
Based in Fukuoka, Japan, GCA Consulting is led by Dr. Robert Chartrand, Professor of English at the Institute of Foreign Language Education, Kurume University. With a unique academic background that blends computer science and language education, Dr. Chartrand holds a Ph.D. in Information Engineering from Kyushu Institute of Technology and an MA in TESOL from the School for International Training in Vermont, USA.
Originally from Montreal, Canada, Robert is fluent in French, English, and Japanese. Since first arriving in Japan in 1983, he has taught English and French at various levels—from language schools to universities—and has organized and led study abroad programs in Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. He has also spent time abroad in the UK, publishing a book on corpus linguistics during a sabbatical in Birmingham.
An active presenter at conferences across Asia, North America, and Europe, Robert is a passionate advocate for international education. He firmly believes that studying abroad, learning new languages, and connecting across cultures are transformative experiences that foster both personal and intellectual growth.
